Transmit-Receive Extended Coverage Visual Coil
Model NMSC-002A-TR

Features:
NMSC-002ATR
Extended Visual Coil with GE adapter

  • 225% increase in local Signal to Noise Ratio compared with volume birdcage head coils
  • Designed specifically for functional MRI of occipital cortex and associated processing areas
  • Fully EPI compatible

Description:

The NMSC-002-TR 3T Transmit-Receive Extended Coverage Visual Coil is designed specifically for functional imaging of the human visual system on systems lacking volume transmit capability. A unique dual loop quadrature design provides high sensitivity over the occipital lobe with extended coverage including the parietal and posterior temporal lobes. Signal to noise ratio is increased up to 225% over standard whole brain volume coils allowing a dramatic increase in the time and spatial resolution of functional studies.

This larger geometry of this coil is required for good transmit uniformity when used as a transmit and receive. Additionally, the NMSC-002A can be provided with PIN diode detuning for receive-only use at 1.5T, 3T, or 4T. The receive-only versions of the NMSC-002A provide extended parietal and temporal coverage in comparison to their smaller NMSC-001 cousins.

Due to the high sensitivity provided by this coil over the primary and higher order visual processing areas, the initial 3T version of this design have been used at Massachusetts General Hospital for all functional visual studies. Currently used at several sites worldwide, results from NMSC-001 and NMSC-002 style visual coils have been the basis of numerous prestigous scientific publications over the past five years.
